Tank Cleaner

Job Purpose

  • Cleans interiors of boilers, storage tanks, industrial processing tanks & kilns to remove emulsion and incrustations, using shovels, squeegees, brooms, scrapers, hoses, water, and solvents. 

  • Drains tank, connects hose to water or steam lines, and sprays walls, roof, and bottom of tank to flush residue, such as oil, acid, grease, and sludge through tank openings. 


Key Result Areas

Perform the daily duties required for the efficient and effective operation of the company in a timely manner. This 

would include but are not limited to the following duties:

  • Scrapes and scrubs walls to remove scale 

  • Sweeps up debris and shovels sludge into buckets or wheelbarrows 

  • Removes chemical residues and other liquids from tank bottoms with squeegees or pump and suction hoses 

  • Dries tanks with portable air-drying equipment 

  • Test gas content of tanks daily 

  • Must be able to work in confined/enclosed spaces 

  • Must be able to work/climb in elevations greater than 5’ 

  • Must be able to wear/work a respirator when applicable 

  • Must follow all company policies and procedures 

  • Other duties assigned or requested by management 

  • Work overtime as required

Knowledge Skills and Experience

The incumbent must have the following Training & Experience: 

  • MUST be T/BOSIET with CAEBS Trained. 

  • Minimum of 1 year experience working in confined space environments. 

The incumbent should have the following Training and Experience (It would be an asset): 

  • Manual Handling and Lifting 

  • Gas Testing – Level 1 

  • Dropped Objects Awareness 

  • High-Pressure Equipment Use 

The incumbent must have proficient knowledge in the following areas:

  • Strong written & verbal communication. 

  • Ability to understand and relay information. 

  • Show initiative and be self-motivated. 

  • Good hand-eye co-ordination. 

  • Lift 50lbs and Carry 25lbs. 

The incumbent must also demonstrate the following personal attributes:

General

The incumbent will operate under the following conditions: 

  • Hours of Work 

The normal hours of work are contained within a 12-hour shift (once per 24-hour period) 

May be required to work beyond the 12 hours but no more than 16 hours.

It is the employee's personal responsibility; within the framework of the tasks, he/she has been set to 

ensure that their time is distributed between tasks in the most advantageous way to the overall benefit of 

the Company.
