The Fisheries Liaison Officer (FLO) acts as the primary interface between the Geophysical Survey Operations and local fishing communities, while ensuring operational coordination and effective communication between the Chase Vessel and the Survey Vessel/Master Vessel.
Responsibilities
- Maintain regular communication with fishing vessels operating in or near the survey area.
- Provide information regarding survey activities, vessel movements, exclusion zones and operational schedules.
- Identify and monitor fishing activities within the Marine Surveillance Zone.
- Advise the Survey Crew and Master on fishing vessel presence and potential conflicts.
- Assist the Chase Vessel Master in communicating with fishing vessels when required.
- Prepare daily reports on fishing activities and stakeholder interactions.
- Support implementation of environmental and social mitigation measures related to fisheries.
- Facilitate conflict resolution between survey operations and fishermen.
- Maintain records of all communications and incidents involving fishing vessels.
Must Have
- Knowledge of local fisheries and fishing practices in Suriname waters.
- Fluent in English. Proficient in Dutch and Surinamese dialect (Sranan Tongo) and Spanish.
- Ability to communicate with local fishermen and authorities.
Offshore medical certificate. - Previous experience as FLO, Community Liaison Officer, Fisheries Observer or similar role preferred.
- Good reporting and communication skills.
