Key Responsibilities

• When at the DP desk, manages DP operations in accordance with the Master’s instructions, and manages the DP system in conformity with normal rules of operation.
• Assists the Chief Mate by documenting and implementing the established planned preventative maintenance and repair procedures for the vessel’s hull, superstructure, and all associated equipment. Ensures personnel are aware and fully understand the procedures for the vessel’s hull, superstructure, and all associated equipment. Ensures personnel are aware and fully understand these procedures and schedules as written. Communicates any discrepancies or problems to the Chief Mate.
• Assists with the verification, maintaining, updating, and documentation of the safe working procedures for the Deck department. Ensure personnel are aware of and fully understand the procedures.
• Assists the Chief Mate in ensuring all safety equipment is in its proper place and maintained in accordance with documented procedures.
• Ensure that adequate resources, tools, and equipment are available as required by the vessel’s Safety Management System.
• Assists the Chief Mate in checking that all crew are trained in the maintenance and use of all necessary personal protective equipment.
• Verifies all orders and instructions have been complied with, and specific tasks have been properly carried out and inspected, upon completion.
• Assists with the supervision of all loading/unloading and transfer of personnel, stores and equipment.
• Ensures smooth transition during Deck Department crew change. Keeps written hand-over notes to ensure efficient and accurate transfer of information.

Education Requirements:

• Completion of a degree in Nautical Sciences.
• Full DP certificate and 1st Officer License is mandatory.
• Competency with Microsoft Office Software Suite version 2007 or greater.
• Industry-related training and general understanding of DP equipment.
• Must Have Marshall Island License
• Must Have AB/OS/Oiler license
