We are seeking an experienced Protected Species Observer (PSO) to support survey operations. The PSO will be responsible for monitoring marine mammals and other protected species, ensuring compliance with environmental permits and industry standards, and safeguarding operational integrity.
Main Functions

Observe and document marine mammals and protected species during survey operations.

Record sightings, effort, and acoustic detections using JNCC or other approved formats.

Monitor permits and environmental restrictions; initiate shutdowns when conditions require.
Key Responsibilities

Verify vendor and subcontractor compliance with permits, project plans, and industry standards.

Communicate technical, operational, and SSH&E concerns to ExxonMobil Lead QC.

Monitor proximity of protected species to field equipment and coordinate with vendor personnel.

Oversee vendor operations, ensuring accurate collection and reporting of observational data.
Skills & Qualifications

Completion of a recognized PSO training course in line with JNCC standards.

PAM operators must have relevant training, with at least one holding a bachelor’s degree or higher in bioacoustics or a related science.

Minimum 10 years field experience as a PSO; ExxonMobil experience preferred.

Strong background in environmental sampling, SSH&E standards, and OIMS awareness.

Excellent communication skills, integrity, and ability to work effectively in teams.

Fluency in written and spoken English.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office and modern communication technologies.

Physically fit and able to meet offshore health, safety, and certification requirements.

Compliance with company drug, alcohol, and health protocols.

Certifications must remain valid for the project’s duration.
